My practices are raising concerns with Depression 2. Although the Business Rules clearly state ALL patients with newly diagnosed depression. When you look at the Read Codes listed under the Business Rules it appears to be only those with a diagnosis of DM or Heart Disease as in Depression 1. I would be interested in how others have interpretated the rules.

My understanding is:

DEP1 only includes pts with either Diabetes (type1 or type 2) and/or CHD EXCLUDING those pts who have a depression diagnosed in the previous 15m ie:since Jan 2006. These pts need to be screened for depression.

DEP2 includes ALL pts with a 1st or new diagnosis of depression since 1.4.06 who have been assessed for severity using 1 of the approved tools. eg: PHQ9,HAD or Beck.
